Review of air ambulance services

A "clinical review" of air ambulance services run by a West-based ambulance trust is being carried out.

The Great Western Ambulance Service is considering launching a new service in summer to cover the Bristol and former area of Avon.

This would be based in Filton, to the north of Bristol, to cover a "historical gap" in provision.

Currently, the service operates an air ambulance covering Wiltshire, which is funded by the police.

The lease on this machine is due to expire in December.

The ambulance service will renew this for one year while the review is carried out, and said it was committed to having an air ambulance in the county.
