Buses carry bike safety warning

Police are joining forces with bus companies in County Durham for a safety campaign aimed at motorcyclists.

Posters urging riders to stop and think before making decisions will be displayed on buses operating in the Teesdale and Weardale areas.

Pocket maps highlighting possible hazards along popular routes are also being handed out.

The "wait a second" campaign has been timed to coincide with the bank holiday and the onset of the new biking season.

'Wrong judgement'

Signs with "Bends Dead Ahead" and "To Die For?" will also be positioned on certain roads as a reminder of the potential dangers for those on two wheels.

Pc Mick Alder, one of eight officers in the motorbike section, said: "As bikers ourselves we want our fellow riders to enjoy the freedom of being on two wheels but we also want them to take care.

"There are some wonderful routes for bikers to use in the dales but it only takes a second to make the wrong judgment.

"If you are out riding this summer please respect the road, the conditions, and other road-users."
