RIBA shortlist for East announced
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced the 13 buildings shortlisted for its East of England awards in 2008.
The shortlisted buildings include five in Cambridgeshire, three in Essex, three in Suffolk, one in Bedfordshire and one in Hertfordshire.
The 13 buildings, picked from 29 entries, include work on the historic Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds.
A winning scheme will be announced on 29 May.
The shortlisted schemes will be visited by an awards jury on 1 and 2 April. Schemes shortlisted for the 2008 RIBA Awards are:
In Cambridgeshire the shortlisted entries are: The Wysing Arts Centre, Bourn (Hawkins Brown Ltd); The Moller Centre Collaborative Learning Environment and Churchill College Music Centre (DSDHA); Accordia, Cambridge (Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios); and New Studio Building, Cambridge University Department of Architecture (Freeland Rees Roberts Architects/Mole Architects), all in Cambridge; and the Thomas Deacon Academy, Peterborough (Foster and Partners).
In Essex the shortlisted entries include: A private House, Newport (David Mikhail Architects, London); St Annes Sure Start, Colchester (DSDHA Ltd, London); and the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall, University of Essex, Colchester (Patel Taylor, London).
In Suffolk those shortlisted are: Trinity Park Events Centre, Suffolk Showground, Ipswich (Van Heyningen and Haward Architects); a private house in Orford (Nash Baker Architects LLP); and the Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds (Levitt Bernstein Associates Ltd).
In Bedfordshire, the shortlisted entry is Cranfield University, Stringfellow Hall (Stanton Williams).
In Hertfordshire the shortlisted entry is Watford Music Centre (Tim Ronalds Architects).

"The RIBA Awards reflect the diversity of architecture and recognise the wide variety of specialist skills involved in delivering good buildings."
The RIBA East region includes the counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Essex and Bedfordshire.
