Agency warns of severe flooding

Parts of the East of England are facing the prospect of major flooding, the Environment Agency (EA) has warned.

Two areas of England within Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire have been designated as being at risk of severe flooding.

People living in and around the villages of Kings Ripton, Ramsey, Kimbolton and Great Staughton have been warned an evacuation may be needed.

They have been warned there is an extreme danger to life and property.

Six areas of the region have been issued ordinary flood warnings which say flooding of homes and businesses is expected.

These areas include: Clipstone Brook at Leighton Buzzard; Ellington and Hamerton in Cambridgeshire; Harpers Brook in Sudborough, Northamptonshire; Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire; Great Ouse from Brackley to Thornborough; and the River Ouzel at Leighton Buzzard.

The EA has also categorised 25 areas in the East as Flood Watch areas including: the Gipping downstream of Needham Market, Suffolk; the Upper Yare, Tiffey and Tas in Norfolk; and the Rivers Deben and Lark in Suffolk.
