Three held over armed robberies

Three people from Kent have been questioned by police in East Sussex investigating two armed robberies at a post office and a betting shop.

The men, aged 21, 27 and 37, from the Tunbridge Wells area, have been bailed pending further inquiries.

They were arrested over robberies in Pevensey Bay and Forest Row on Monday in which the same Peugeot 206 car was believed to have been used.

The dark silver vehicle was found abandoned in Horsham early on Tuesday.

The first incident happened at about 1600 GMT at the post office in Eastbourne Road, Pevensey Bay.

Two men wearing balaclavas entered the shop carrying hand guns, and demanded money, but then left empty-handed and got in to a Peugeot 206 driven by a third man.

The Peugeot had the registration number HF04 EWC, which had been stolen in the Lewes area.

Wet and muddy

The second robbery happened at about 1705 GMT at the Betfred betting shop in Forest Row, and also involved two armed men wearing balaclavas.

A small amount of cash was stolen.

The stolen registration plates used in the robbery at Pevensey Bay were later recovered in Ashurst Wood.

A dark silver Peugeot 206, registration T737 MLK, was found abandoned in the area of Church Lane, Plumbers Plain, in Horsham, in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police believe the occupants of the vehicle, possibly three males, may have been hiding in the area and would have been wet and possibly covered in mud.
