Three miniature statues of Brian Clough have gone on display at Nottingham's Council House.
People have until Saturday to say which one they prefer before a decision is made on which will become a full-sized bronze tribute.
The former Nottingham Forest and Derby County manager died in September 2004.
A selection panel, including members of the Clough family, will decide which of the three sculptures will be made into a full-size memorial.
Paul Ellis, from the fund which raised £70,000 for the statue, said members of the public would be able to leave a note of their favourite designs and the selection panel would take those comments into consideration when making their decision.
The three short-listed artists, Hampshire-based Les Johnson, Keith Maddison from Northumberland and John McKenna from Ayrshire in Scotland, have each been asked to make a miniature statue as well as a bust.
A seven-foot statue showing Clough aged 24 was unveiled in his home town of Middlesbrough in May 2007.
He won the League Championship at Derby County and at Forest and went on to win two European Cups with the Nottingham club.
He played for Middlesbrough from 1955-1961 scoring 197 goals in 213 league games and then moved to Sunderland from 1961-1964 where he scored 54 goals in 61 league games.
