Flooded railway has 2008 targets

Three quarters of the 16-mile (26km) line between Bridgnorth, Shropshire, and Kidderminster remains closed after the summer floods.

Owners said many smaller jobs had been completed and it was aiming to have the whole line open by about March.

Fundraising was continuing at the weekend with a Diesel Gala on Saturday and a Classic Car Show on Sunday.

'Absolutely astonishing'

The estimated cost for full repairs has been put at £2.6m.

The railway, which is only operating between Kidderminster and Bewdley was damaged by heavy rain in 40 places in June.

It said it still had "quite a bit" of the track work to do.

Last month, officials said the appeal to raise money for repairs had reached £415,000 from public donations.

A spokesman said: "The public appeal is still open and the money is still coming in.

"It's been absolutely astonishing and almost overwhelming the public support we've had.

"That is going to go a long way towards bridging the gap between what we've got so far and what we will finally need."
