Two arrested after town stabbing

Armed police surrounded a house in County Durham for two hours on Sunday night after a man was stabbed.

The victim, a man in his mid-30s, was knifed several times in Bessemer Street, Ferryhill, police said.

He was treated at Durham's University Hospital for serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A 25-year-old man was arrested by armed officers following a two-hour operation on the same street. A 42-year-old man had been arrested earlier.

A Durham Police spokesman said the men were being questioned at separate police stations.
