An actor wept as he told jurors his pantomime work had dried up because of adverse publicity over his arrest on child pornography offences.
Duncan Breeze had previously played the role of Prince Charming at theatres all over the UK, Luton Crown Court heard.
Mr Breeze, of Pymoor, Cambs, was held after 4,270 indecent images of children were found on computers.
The 32-year-old denies 20 offences of making indecent images of children and one of possessing indecent images.
Jurors heard how police confiscated a total of four computers from his former home in Beeston, near Sandy, Bedfordshire, as well as from another property in Weston-super-Mare, in 2004.
Of the images found, 84 were classified as level five, the worst level of child pornography.
Police carried out raids on the two properties after they had been alerted by Croatian law enforcement agencies.
Mr Breeze is accused of acquiring the images between 2001 and 2004.
But the defendant claims the computers at the two addresses were also used by other people.
Asked by his defence barrister Nicholas Corsellis if he had ever accessed a newsgroup and a shared photo site, he replied: "No".
The trial continues.
