Footballers fined over shop theft

Glen Johnson playing for Portsmouth England footballer Glen Johnson has been arrested and given an £80 fine after he and another man were caught stealing from a B&Q store in Kent.

The defender, who has played five times for England, was held along with Millwall footballer Ben May.

Johnson, currently on loan from Chelsea to Portsmouth, and May were caught at B&Q in Dartford on Wednesday.

A police statement said: "Kent Police arrested two 22-year-old men... on suspicion of theft in Dartford."

A spokesman added: "Both men have been issued with £80 fixed penalty notices."

Bathroom suite

No-one from Portsmouth FC or Millwall FC would make any comment.

B&Q said: "We can confirm two men were apprehended in our Dartford store on the afternoon of 17 January, following an alleged shoplifting incident involving a B&Q bathroom suite."

The statement added that the matter was referred to the police.

The news of Johson's arrest came on the same day that Portsmouth striker Lomana LuaLua was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
