Accused remanded in car rape case

A 44-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with raping a 17-year-old girl in a parked car.

Stephen Crawford, of Bessemer Street, Ferryhill, County Durham, is also charged with kidnap and sexual assault relating to a separate incident.

It follows an alleged incident in a car near the bus stop at Dudley and Weetslade Social Club, North Tyneside, on 1 October.

Mr Crawford was remanded by North Tyneside magistrates until 9 November.
