Motorcyclist killed in bus crash

A motorcyclist has been killed in a head-on collision with a bus service vehicle in rural County Durham.

John Willoughby, of Chopwell, Gateshead, was riding on a road between Hamsterley Mill and Burnopfield on Monday morning.

Durham Police said the 47-year-old was thought to have braked and skidded into the path of the single-decker bus. He died at the scene.

The bus driver was taken to hospital suffering from shock.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
