Public loo in line for East award
The shortlisted entries for an architecture award for buildings in the East of England have been revealed.
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has announced the 18 shortlisted entries for the East Spirit of Ingenuity Architectural Awards.
The entries include the futuristic Victoria Avenue Public Conveniences, in Cambridge, and a private house at Bentley, near Ipswich, Suffolk.
The winner will be announced at a RIBA event in Cambridge in October.
Schemes shortlisted for the 2006 RIBA East Spirit of Ingenuity Awards are:
Cambridgeshire: Plant Growth Facility, University of Cambridge Botanic Garden (RH Partnership Architects); New Block at Impington Village College (Mouchel Parkman); Cripps Court, Magdalene College, Cambridge (Freeland Rees Roberts); Private House, Little Abington, Cambridge (Snell David Architects); Victoria Avenue Public Conveniences, Cambridge (Freeland Rees Roberts); Peterhouse Ward Library, Cambridge (Freeland Rees Roberts); Eco Townhouse, Cambridge (Freeland Rees Roberts).
Essex: Martello Tower C, Clacton on Sea (Hilary Brightman Conservation Architect); Private House, Cutler's Green, Thaxted (Snell David Architects).
Hertfordshire: Private House, Berkhamsted (David Kirkland & Associates); Church of Our Lady and St Vincent De Paul, Potters Bar (Francis Weal and Partners); New ICT Building, St Christopher School, Letchworth (Widdup Amer Architects).
Norfolk: The Nelson Monument, Great Yarmouth (Purcell Miller Tritton); Norwich Bus Station (NPS Property Consultants); Barn Conversion, Gunthorpe (David Partridge); Private House, Burnham Thorpe (Snell David Architects).
Suffolk: Private House, Bentley, near Ipswich (Freeland Rees Roberts); The Foundry, Green Light Trust, Lawshall (Modece Architects).
Louise Todd, regional director of RIBA East said: "The Regional Awards highlight the design contributions made by talented architects working within the East of England and are open to RIBA architects and practices based in the East of England for projects within the region.
"We are delighted with the number of entries and quality of projects received this year from both architects and their domestic and commercial clients."
