Couple stay in bed for peace

A West Yorkshire couple are following in the steps of John Lennon and Yoko Ono and having a lie-in for peace.

Andrew and Christine Gale will be spending the whole of Valentine's Day on Friday in bed at their home in Addingham near Ilkley as a protest against war with Iraq.

On Saturday, half a million people are expected to be in London for an anti-war rally

Christine Gale told BBC Look North from her bed: "It's just a message we want to get across.

"We want peace and we want to sleep in peace."

Andrew said: "Since many people can't get to the peace march in London we're staging a 24 hour lie-in as John Lennon and Yoko Ono did during the Vietnam war."

The couple are calling on other couples to join them by having a lie-in in their own beds.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono's protest lasted seven days and was held at the Amsterdam Hilton in 1969.
