Pole dancing club for village

A controversial pole-dancing club opens in a Wiltshire village on Thursday night for a preview.

Over 100 people are expected at the erotic performance of two dancing girls at the Moonraker's pub in Pewsey, near Marlborough.

Anyone without a ticket will have to wait until 13 December when the club opens properly.

Local people have threatened to seek legal advice if their fears of being disturbed are confirmed.

Alex Carder, vice chairman of the local Parish council, said the club was 'inappropriate' for the village.

"There is a wider issue here. We do not have a high enough level of policing here and this could attract people at the wrong time of day.

"Plus, it is in a residential area," he said.

But the pub's landlord, Jerry Kunkler, said he had received a lot of positive local support.

'Keen youngsters'

"The people who are concerned about the club do not use the premises and do not go out after 2000 GMT.

"Strip bars and pole dancing clubs are growing fast and striptease has been around for years," Mr Kunkler added.

One villager, who refused to give their name, said: "I just wonder if it is the type of thing Pewsey needs. We have quite a lot of elderly people here.

"But a lot of the local youngsters seem quite keen."
