Jolie gives hospital £50,000

Tomb Raider star Angelina Jolie has donated £50,000 to a children's hospital after they treated her son.

Managers at Liverpool's Alder Hey Children's Hospital said they were "delighted" with the donation which will go towards a new cancer unit.

Ms Jolie's adopted son Maddox was at the hospital for three days while his mother was filming the Tomb Raider sequel in Snowdonia, North Wales.

It is believed he suffered minor injuries following an accident with a kettle.

The Oscar winner's cash will go towards the hospital's Rocking Horse Appeal.

It aims to raise £10m by May 2003 to build a cancer unit featuring the latest technology.

A hospital spokeswoman said: "We are absolutely delighted. It is such a generous offer.

"We are currently on £8.7m, so £50,000 is a significant step towards our goal."

Ms Jolie won an Oscar as best supporting actress in the 2000 film Girl, Interrupted.
