Man dies in industrial accident

A 21-year-old man has died after being sucked into an industrial vacuum press machine.

The incident happened at an industrial unit in Westhoughton, near Bolton, Greater Manchester, at about 1100 BST on Wednesday.

The man, from Aspull, near Wigan, was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital and later transfered to North Manchester General Hospital where he died during surgery at about 2045 BST.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out on Thursday.

The man suffered head and chest injuries in the incident at Unit 11 of the Wingates Industrial Estate.

He has not yet been formally identified.
