Flood warnings continue

Residents are counting the cost of last week's floods

There are 11 flood warnings on place on Saturday, most of them across the Midlands.

Further rain is expected across southern England late in the day.

Forecasters predicted drier, sunny weather on Sunday.

Sandbags issued

There was some flooding overnight on Friday as a band of wet weather swept across north-east England.

Sandbags were issued in parts of North Lincolnshire.

Firefighters in Hull were called to pump out water from the cellars of three flooded pubs in the city.

The Environment Agency said there were 11 flood warnings in place at 1400 BST on Saturday.

In addition, there were 33 flood watches - a lower-level alert. There were no severe flood warnings.

A spokeswoman told BBC News Online: "Things are easier than they were this time last week.

"At the same time we should remain cautious and the public should continue to check the floodline and monitor the situation."

The latest flood warnings in the Midlands are:

• River Wye, three sections
• River Severn
• River Soar
• River Wreke
• River Sow
• River Dove, two sections

  There is one flood warning the South West:

• River Isle

Water from heavy downpours on Thursday and Friday is continuing to filter down the river systems, but the Environment Agency says water levels are continuing to fall.

However, there is concern that future heavy rain could cause more flooding because the ground is saturated.
