A Royal Marine has died in Helmand Province, southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has said.
The Marine, was from the UK Landing Force Command Support Group operating as part of 45 Commando Royal Marines, which is based in Arbroath, Scotland.
He was taking part in a routine reassurance patrol when he was killed in an explosion in the Kajaki area.
He is the 139th British serviceman to die since October 2001. His next of kin has been informed.
The marine received immediate medical attention at the scene but died of his wounds.
Spokeswoman for Task Force Helmand, Cdr Paula Rowe, said: "The death of this Royal Marine is a tragedy for everyone in Task Force Helmand. Whilst words cannot ease their loss, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this desperately sad time."
He is the 13th Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan in the last two months.
