Fifth arrest over PM death threat

Detectives investigating an alleged threat to kill Prime Minister Gordon Brown have arrested a 29-year-old man in Derby under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Five people are now in police custody as part of an ongoing operation, following the arrest on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said: "A search of the address in Derbyshire is under way and is expected to take several days."

The arrest is part of an inquiry into threats made against the prime minister and Tony Blair in January.

Greater Manchester Police Counter Terrorism Unit and Lancashire Constabulary are conducting the probe.

The Derby man was arrested at Moore Street, in the Normanton area.

Three of the five people being held as part of the investigation were arrested on 14 August at Manchester Airport and in Accrington.

And a fourth, who is understood to be a Muslim convert, was arrested on Tuesday in Blackburn.

Detectives have until Thursday to charge or release them, or seek an extension to their custody.

The threats against the prime minister and his predecessor were made on a recognised jihadi website, by a group calling itself "al-Qaeda in Britain".
