A Briton has been stabbed to death in Saudi Arabia.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said local police were investigating after the discovery of the body in the city of Al Khobar, in the east of the country.

In a statement, Police Colonel Abdul-Aziz al-Sulaiman said the Briton had a dispute with an Egyptian man, who was treated in hospital for hand injuries.

The Foreign Office said the Briton's family was being informed.

The victim's gender has not been revealed.

The Associated Press news agency reported that the body was found on Wednesday in an apartment in the city.

Interior Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Mansour al-Turki stressed that the killing was not terrorism-related.
