Twins' fire death: mother charged
Police investigating the death of two seven-year-olds in a house fire in Ayrshire have charged their mother.

Fire-fighters carried the twins, Kevin and Louise Miller, from their flat in Kilwinning, on Friday morning, but were unable to revive them.

Their mother Janice Graham, 31, was rescued from the fire and is thought to be receiving treatment in hospital.

Strathclyde Police said she was not being held in custody and they refused to specify the charge.

No date has yet been set for when she will appear in court.

The tragedy has left friends and neighbours of the family, of Cambusdoon Place, Kilwinning, in shock.

The twins had been pupils for two years at Pennyburn Primary School in Kilwinning, where the head-teacher, Alice McGonigle, said everyone had been left "deeply distressed".

"Kevin and Louise were delightful pupils who were quiet and hardworking. The pupils and staff will miss them so much. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin and Louise's family," she said.

A neighbour, 17-year-old Joanne Kennedy, heard a smoke detector going off on Friday morning and called the fire brigade, who arrived within minutes.

The family is said to have moved into the house just a few weeks ago.
