Walkers makes crisp packet recall

Walkers crisp packet Crisps giant Walkers has recalled batches of its products after reports that pieces of rubber have been found in some packets.

The affected products are Walkers and Walkers Max crisps, in a variety of flavours with best before dates of 15 March 2008 and 22 March 2008.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has put out an alert and notices are in shops.

The Leicester-based company said it believed the chances of anyone finding the pieces of yellow rubber were small.

Point-of-sale notices

A statement from Walkers said: "As a precautionary measure, and in agreement with the Food Standards Agency, we are making consumers aware of the possible presence of pieces of yellow rubber in a small number of packets of Walkers crisps and Walkers Max.

"Although we believe the chances of finding a piece of rubber in a packet of crisps are small, we advise anyone who has bought the specified product to be alert."

It added: "We would ask anyone with family or friend who may have purchased this product to contact them in case they may not be aware of this advice."

The firm said no other of its products were known to be affected.

The FSA said point-of-sale notices would be displayed at retail outlets explaining why the products had been recalled.
