Pop veteran Sir Cliff Richard will celebrate the 40th anniversary of his recording career later this year with 20 musical shows.

The singer is staging a series of shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London to mark his four decades in the business.

Sir Cliff, who has sold more than 250 million records, will be performing the shows "in the round" with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra from November 17.

Demand is expected to be massive. In 1988, when Sir Cliff celebrated the 30th anniversary of his first hit, Move It, a 47-date tour sold out within 48 hours.

During the new shows, Sir Cliff will perform his biggest hits, such as Livin' Doll, Summer Holiday and Bachelor Boy, as well as new songs from his next album, which is due out in the autumn.

Other events lined up during the year include a 24-hour festival featuring the singer's most notable movies. There will also be a commemorative album, single and video.

Sir Cliff is also expected to take part in a celebrity open-air concert in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales at Althorp Park, Northamptonshire, on June 27. Tickets go on sale from 10am on Saturday, February 28.

Sir Cliff, 57, has been one of Britain's most successful recording stars, releasing 119 singles and more than 60 albums during his career.

He has notched up 13 number one singles - and has also hit the top spot by performing on the Band Aid single, Do They Know It's Christmas.

Tickets for the Royal Albert Hall shows go on sale on March 29.
