'Terror training' suspects held

Mohamed Hamid, 48, of Clapton, east London, faces charges of soliciting murder and providing terror training.

Kibley Da Costa, 23, of West Norwood, south-east London, is charged with terror training offences.

The men - charged on Thursday - were among 14 arrested in raids in London earlier this month, which included a swoop on a Chinese restaurant.

The overnight raids in London on 1 September led to 12 arrests at The Bridge to China Town restaurant in Borough, south London, and two elsewhere.

Twelve men have now been charged, and two released.

Mr Hamid will appear at the Old Bailey on 29 September.

Mr Da Costa will next appear again at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on 22 September.

Mr Hamid faces 12 charges, including several offences of soliciting or encouraging people to murder and encouraging members of the public to commit, prepare or instigate acts of terrorism.

He is also accused of providing instruction or training in the making or use of firearms contrary to Section 54(1) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Islamic school

Mr Da Costa faces three charges including providing instruction or training in the use of any method or technique he knew would be used in the commission or preparation of acts of terrorism.

He is accused of providing such instruction or training at a woodland area near Matley Wood Caravan and Camping site, in Beaulieu Road, Lyndhust, Hampshire, between 2 June and 4 June 2006.

He is charged with, on 18 June 2006, attending a location near Pondwood Farm, White Waltham, Berkshire, and while there instructing or training of the type mentioned in Section 6(1) or Section 54(1) of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Of the others arrested, five men and a youth arrested in the operation were remanded in custody after appearing in Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Four other men appeared at the court on Tuesday. They were also remanded in custody.

The police operation also involved anti-terror officers searching an Islamic school in East Sussex.
