Celebrations of the Queen's 80th birthday have continued with a display of historic cars, one for each year of her life.
The British-built cars, ranging from the 1920s to modern models, went on display at Buckingham Palace and were inspected by the Duke of Gloucester.
Ex-racing driver Sir Stirling Moss arrived in a Jaguar D-type.
Meanwhile, the Queen's family and friends gathered for a gala dinner with entertainment at Windsor Castle.
The castle was under tight security to avoid a repeat of Prince William's 21st birthday party, when a stand-up comedian wearing a peach ball-gown and high heels managed to gate-crash the event.
'Boyhood dream'
The oldest car at the motoring exhibition was a Bullnose Morris Oxford Tourer representing 1926. The exhibit for 2006 was a Jaguar XK150.
Others on display included the McLaren F1, a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, a Daimler VDP and a Ford Escort.
Sir Stirling said he regarded the Queen as a "fantastic lady".
"The fact she is 80 is incidental, it doesn't seem to slow her up and the great thing about her is she is a continuation of our heritage."
Tony Springate, 67, and his wife Gwen, 65, from Ilford, Essex, brought their Jaguar E Type to the royal display.
Mr Springate said: "I've had the car about 25 years. It was a boyhood dream to own it."
So far the Queen has received about 40,000 cards and e-mails from well-wishers.
There will be a special service of thanksgiving on Sunday, with members of the Royal Family gathering at St George's chapel at Windsor.
The main public commemorations for the Queen's birthday will take place in June around her official birthday.
