UK ticket in EuroMillions bonanza

EuroMillions ticket A ticket bought in the UK has scooped the £17.8m jackpot in the nine-nation EuroMillions lottery.

The winning numbers were 16, 26, 34, 35 and 49; the Lucky Star numbers were 2 and 6.

A player must choose the first five numbers from a set of 50 and the Lucky Stars from a set of nine. Odds against a win are more than 76 million to one.

Last August an Irish mother-of-six won £77m on the EuroMillions draw, which was first held in February 2004.

The UK's first - and previous biggest - EuroMillions jackpot win was by Marion Richardson from Tyneside, who won £16.75m in April 2004.

In February, three winners shared a £126m EuroMillions jackpot after an 11-week rollover.

One ticket was bought in Portugal and the other two in France.

The countries whose lotteries now take part in the joint draw are Austria, Belgium, France, the Irish Republic, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
