Dando bank hackers fired

The bank said "a serious breach of company policy" was committed when illegitimate searches were made of Ms Dando's confidential records.

The three members of staff at Lloyds TSB's motor division had been searching through the information without authority.

The company's computer showed at least 10 searches of her credit files after her death and private banking details are understood to have been accessed.

The sackings and suspension were made at disciplinary hearings.

In a short statement, a spokeswoman said they regretted any distress to the friends and family of Jill Dando.

Easy to trace

"Staff know it is a disciplinary offence if illegal searches are carried out but it's very, very easy to trace," the bank said.

"Some members of staff would have legitimate reasons for carrying out searches and if they illegitimately carried them out, then it would show.

Hackers are thought to have access to information including details of her previous homes, mortgage and bank details.

Scotland Yard has said it is not investigating the matter.

Lloyds TSB in Edinburgh said: "Clearly in an organisation the size of Lloyds TSB people have access to confidential information.

"We therefore have very strict and precise rules for the use of that information and deal severely with any staff who breach these rules.

"Our internal procedures highlighted illegitimate searches had been carried out which did not tie up with bank business.
