New Year honours in focus

The parents of murdered black teenager Stephen Lawrence are recognised in the Queen's New Year honours List. The vicar of Soham is honoured for his services to the village devastated by the deaths of schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman. BBC News Interactive looks at the list.


Alan Bates
One of the most important British actors to emerge during the 1960s becomes a knight. Alan Bates made his reputation early in his career as one of the original "angry young men" of the post-war English theatre.


Jasper Carrott
Funnyman Jasper Carrott says he is "thrilled but humbled" to be awarded an OBE for his services to charity. The comedian, who has amassed a multi-million pound fortune, has spent years raising money for worthy causes.


Tim Alban Jones
The vicar of the home town of schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman receives an MBE. The Reverend Tim Alban Jones became a high-profile figure in the town following the disappearance of the 10-year-olds.


Brenda Blethyn
An OBE is being awarded to actress Brenda Blethyn. The twice Oscar-nominated star of "Secrets and Lies" and "Little Voice" is currently appearing in the West End production of George Bernard Shaw's Mrs Warren's Profession.
