Every day, as Nick does his job covering the comings and goings of the Westminster political scene, he is keeping this diary.

In true weblog style though, you are free to add your comments, questions and thoughts.

Weblogs

A word about weblogs, in case the phenomenon has passed you by.

In effect, the first weblog was also the first website, run by Tim Berners-Lee as the protocols which define the web were devised.(See "Internet links".)

But now there are many thousands of weblogs being run all over the world.

Dave Winer, who produces the longest-running weblog on the internet, Scripting News, defines them as being "a kind of a continual tour, with a human guide who you get to know".

Many consist of links to other websites of interest, often with a comment added by the owner of the weblog.

But some weblogs adopt lives of their own right, becoming unfolding diaries.

Nick Robinson's aims to having something of both of these - news about and links to things that have happened, and his own take on those events.
