The bodies of the men were found hanging in their cells on Friday evening.
Bernard Lodge, 28, from Miles Platting, and Terence Martin, 20, from Longsight, both in Manchester, were both discovered with ligatures made from bed sheets around their necks.
The men were cut down by staff who attempted to revive them but both died shortly afterwards.
Lodge was awaiting trial on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm.
Martin was on remand from Manchester Magistrates Court after being accused of taking a car.
The two were found within one hour of each other but the Prison Service says there is no connection between the two deaths.
A senior prison officer from another prison will conduct the investigation.
