Man stabbed in Oldham gang attack
A man who was attacked by what he described as a group of Asian youths in Greater Manchester has said he does not wish to make an official complaint.
Police suspect the assault may be racially motivated but the man who described being chased by 12 youths is not co-operating with their inquiry.
The 19-year-old white man was stabbed with a broken bottle on Wednesday night. He suffered wounds to his back and is in hospital recovering.
The incident happened in Oldham, where there has been a series of racist attacks.
'No-go zones'
Problems in the area were brought to light when some Asian youths claimed they wanted to create 'no-go zones' for white people because police had failed to react to attacks on their communities.
An attack on 76-year old war veteran Walter Chamberlain resulted in the National Front staging protests in the town despite a three-month ban on political marches.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the victim of Wednesday's attack was walking along Westbourne Road at Chadderton in Oldham at 2110BST when he was assaulted by 12 youths.
Chadderton police are appealing for anyone with information about this latest attack to contact them.
