It is seven months since the Burmese government released the pro-democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest.

There had been hope that progress could be made to restore her country to democracy, but so far there has been little visible evidence.

In our special programme with her she said she believed there would be progress in the coming months, but she said it wasn't yet time to end sanctions against the Burmese government

The Nobel peace laureate's National League for Democracy (NLD) party overwhelmingly won the country's 1990 elections but the military government refused to hand over power.

Aung San Suu Kyi was our guest on Talking Point this week in our special series to mark the 70th anniversary of the BBC World Service. The full programme and transcript is available by clicking the "open player" button at the top of this page.
