Can Obama fulfil Dr King's dream?

Barack Obama Throughout his campaign Barack Obama has tried to reach for the legacy of Martin Luther King in calling for change. Is Mr Obama the realisation of Dr King's dream?

In his victory speech in South Carolina, Barack Obama called on his supporters to overcome racial divisions and work for what he called the politics of shared prosperity.

Jonathan Farley, a former Martin Luther King Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, argues that to liken Barack Obama to Martin Luther King does him no favours because King, in his opinion, failed African Americans.

In a recent article Dr Farley has said "King built nothing, and taught us only how to take a beating". He says "a black King did not redeem us. And neither will a black president".

Jonathan Farley is a guest on 'World Have Your Say' on the BBC World Service at 1800 GMT today to discuss his views.

Can Barack Obama fulfil Martin Luther King's dream? Or do you agree with Dr Farley?
