Hopkin sees Leeds end on high note

Hopkin sees Leeds end on high note
Coventry 2-2 Leeds

Leeds ended their successful season on a high note, as David Hopkin scored an equaliser in the dying moments of his side's final game of the season.

Coventry, who for once were not battling for survival as the campaign reached its climax, were able to enjoy themselves in the sunshine at Highfield Road.

But Hopkin denied the home side the victory that would have sent the Sky Blues home happy, as he rounded keeper Magnus Hedman in the third minute of injury time.

Leeds had gone ahead courtesy of Clyde Wijnhard's first Premier League goal of the season just before the break.

David Batty put Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink clear, the Dutch striker beat the advancing Hedman and Wjinhard was on the line to tap the ball home.

City double

But City hit back after the break and, after former Leeds star Noel Whelan had wasted two great chances, John Aloisi equalised in the 63rd minute.

His fifth goal of the season, and first for two months, sparked an all-out assault on the Leeds goal, which resulted in Coventry going ahead 17 minutes from the end.

Paul Telfer struck a low, long-range drive that beat Leeds keeper Nigel Martyn and set up Hopkin's grandstand finish.
