The Pakistan paceman had been linked with a move to Trent Bridge ever since he made a spectacular impact in this summer's World Cup.
The 24-year-old, who led his team to the World Cup final, has signed as Notts' overseas player.
It is believed he signed a one-year deal which leaves him free to play for Pakistan when they tour England next summer. He will have the option of rejoining in 2002.
Relegation fight
Although Notts are likely to be in the Second Division of the restructured County Championship next season, Shoaib - nicknamed the `Rawalpindi Express' - is understood to be looking forward to the challenge.
According to reports from Pakistan, he has been strongly influenced by former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan.
Imran, himself a one-time County Championship stalwart, has said it would be beneficial for Shoaib to work with Notts' team manger Rice.
