Saqlain six gives Surrey seven

Saqlain six gives Surrey seven
Surrey v Hants

Pakistani off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq took six wickets for 74 runs to help Surrey to their seventh championship win and a strong position at the head of the table.

The unbeaten leaders sealed their 156-run win in just an hour-and-a-half of play on the final day at Guildford.

It was Saqlain's third five-wicket haul in four innings.

Former England batsman Robin Smith offered the most resistance, hitting 46 before he was bowled by Saqlain.

Sussex v Leics

Hampshire slipped into third place behind Leicestershire, who moved up the table with a win over Sussex.

Matthew Brimson claimed five for 51 as the defending champions secured their fourth championship win of the season.

Sussex were bowled out for 214 to lose by an innings and 33 runs.

Lancs v Glamorgan

Chris Schofield and Muttiah Muralitharan spun the home side to their second consecutive championship victory at Blackpool.

They each took two more wickets as Glamorgan, 235 for six overnight, were all out for 289.

That left Lancashire needing only 16 to win and Mike Atherton and Mark Chilton knocked off the runs inside nine overs.

Atherton's unbeaten 13 took his tally for the match to 281 without being dismissed.

Glos v Worcs

Worcestershire were made to wait for a five-wicket win due to a century stand by last-wicket pair Martyn Ball and Jonathan Lewis at Cheltenham.

The home side had looked doomed to a crushing innings defeat when their score stood on 295 for nine - despite Kim Barnett's 54th first-class century.

But Ball (70 not out) and Lewis moved to within one run of the Gloucestershire 76-year-old 10th-wicket record stand of 131.

But Lewis was dismissed for 62, leaving the visitors needing 66 to win.

The visitors lost five wickets on their way with Mike Smith grabbing four wickets.
