India fight back at 91-0
The Indian openers made a confident start after Javagal Srinath cut short Sri Lanka's progress on the second day of the first Test in Mohali.

Navjot Sidhu made 47 not out and Nayan Mongia was unbeaten on 41 as India, replying to Sri Lanka's first innings of 369, ended the second day's play on a comfortable 91 without loss.

Earlier, Srinath led a brilliant Indian fightback which saw Sri Lanka collapse from their overnight 280 for four to 313 for eight, before being all out an hour after lunch.

Srinath, who took two wickets yesterday after returning from a nine-month break caused by a shoulder injury, claimed two more for a four-wicket haul, taking his tally to 96 from 28 Tests.

Sri Lanka, who lost four wickets in the space of 12 runs this morning, were saved further embarrassment by a defiant unbeaten 37 from Kumara Dharmasena, who added 20 for the ninth wicket with Muttiah Murlitharan and Sajeewa De Silva.
