What they said
BBC News Online brings you a round-up of the reaction from the key figures in England and Scotland's Euro 2000 clash

Scotland striker Billy Dodds: "It is so disappointing to lose. It is typical Scottish luck."

Battle of Britain

Scotland skipper Colin Hendry: "It couldn't have been any closer."

England keeper David Seaman: "They shocked me a bit. I was a little bit surprised - it was a hell of a fight by Scotland."

Scotland defender David Weir"We are 100% disappointed. We felt we played well on Saturday and didn't get the breaks and it happened again."

England midfielder Paul Ince: "We have taken the hard route but thanks to our goalkeeper we are there."

England skipper Alan Shearer: "Scotland were wounded on Saturday but they came here and gave us one hell of a fight."

Scotland goalscorer Don Hutchison: "It was great to get the goal, but disappointing to go out like that. I don't think it's really sunk in among the boys yet that we're not actually there."

Scotland manager Craig Brown: "All I can say to the critics is tell me any game where one player didn't give 100%."

England manager Kevin Keegan: "I think the critics will slaughter us for that performance. But that's life."

Keegan again, minutes later: "There is a lot of character in the side and I know you'll laugh but we have a chance to win it."

Former Scotland player Joe Jordan: "Craig Brown will be very proud of the way they played, they performed very well but the goals never came."

Press Association writer Frank Malley: "At times Keegan and England teetered on disaster. And no-one could have denied the Scots if they had pulled off the triumph of a lifetime."
