New start for Mideast peace
The Israeli and Palestinian leaders signed a landmark agreement in September 1999 aimed at reviving the Middle East peace process after the stalled Wye River accord.

Middle East deal signed (23 October 1998)
President Bill Clinton and Israeli and Palestinian leaders signed an interim Middle East peace agreement in October 1998. But despite a direct appeal from President Clinton the deal foundered, and the peace process went into deadlock.
