Bachchan back in front of cameras

Amitabh Bachchan leaving a Mumbai hospital on 17 October 2008

Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, who was treated at a Mumbai hospital last month after suffering abdominal pains, returned to work on Friday.

Bachchan, known as "the Big B", said on his blog that it was "wonderful to be getting back in front of the camera".

But added: "Quite honestly, I was rather enjoying the rest days."

The veteran star has been recuperating at home in Mumbai. He spent almost a week in hospital last month after being admitted on his 66th birthday.

"Nothing to do, no schedules and timings to rush to, no compulsions - just lying back and taking my own time over it," wrote Bachchan, recalling his recent time off.

"Ah well - can't have everything in life your way."

Fans across India held prayers last month for the actor's recovery.

Bachchan underwent surgery for an intestinal condition at the same hospital in 2005.

The actor starred in the legendary Hindi movie Sholay and previously hosted the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
