Indian workers detained in UAE

Police in the United Arab Emirates have detained about 3,000 Indian workers, it has emerged.

Indian ambassador to the UAE, Talmiz Ahmed, has confirmed that the labourers were arrested after rioting.

The protest was apparently sparked by the poor quality of food they were being served at a camp on Friday night.

The workers were employed at a ceramics factory in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. Foreigners make up the bulk of the workforce in the UAE.

The majority are from India and Pakistan.
