Bangladesh map

At least 17 people have been killed and about 20 injured in a train crash in central Bangladesh, officials say.

The train reportedly collided with a crowded bus at an unmanned railway crossing in Tangail district, 80km (50 miles) north of the capital, Dhaka.

Officials say all of the victims were passengers on board the bus. Three of the injured are reported to be in a serious condition.

There was no major damage to the train, a railway official said.

The official said the train was travelling from the northern town of Dinajpur to Dhaka when the incident happened early on Wednesday.

An investigation into the incident has been ordered.
