US soldiers killed by Afghan mine

Four US soldiers have been killed in an explosion in central Afghanistan triggered when their vehicle struck a mine, the US military said.

The troops had been surveying a site for a firing range in Logar province, 40km (25 miles) south-west of Kabul.

It was not known whether the mine was freshly laid or a leftover from the country's long wars.

A US military spokeswoman confirmed that an investigation was under way to determine the cause of the blast.
