Pakistan, Nepal crashes kill 49

Wreckage of the minibus which crashed on the outskirts of Islamabad Two early morning bus crashes in Pakistan and Nepal have killed at least 49 people.

At least 37 passengers died when a minibus was involved in a collision then ran off a bridge on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.

The accident happened just after 0600 local time (0100GMT).

Twelve passengers died, and more were said to be injured, when a bus left a mountainous road west of Nepal's capital, Kathmandu.

Slippery

Police and rescue officials in Pakistan say the minibus was on a routine run into Rawalpindi when it crashed with another vehicle.

It fell 20m (65 feet) on to the dry bed of the River Soan.

Ten injured passengers were rescued from the wreckage.

The accident in Nepal happened at around 0200 local time (2015GMT).

The bus left the Tribhuvan highway about 80km (50 miles) west of Kathmandu.

A police official told the Associated Press news agency that visibility in the area had been poor and roads had been slippery because of rain.

Traffic had been diverted on to the narrow, twisty road because the main route out of Kathmandu was closed for repairs.
