Pakistan steps up security
Pakistan steps up security
The Pakistani authorities have stepped up security in Karachi, and several cities in the Punjab province, in an effort to prevent sectarian violence during the Muslim month of Moharrum when Shi'ites mark the martyrdom of the Prophet Mohammed's grandson, Imam Hussein.
The BBC correspondent in Islamabad says the deployment of army troops and paramilitary units follows a number of attacks on Shi'ite gatherings, in which several people have been injured.
