Hawking: 60th birthday lecture

Professor Stephen Hawking has given a lecture entitled 60 Years In A Nutshell to a gathering of eminent physicists as part of his 60th birthday celebrations.

The event is also to be shown later in the year on the corporation's new digital channel, BBC Four, which launches in March. BBC Four will be dedicated to in-depth factual programming.

The Hawking lecture will be a major feature in BBC Four's space and other science output.

Stephen Hawking, Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, UK, was 60 on Tuesday.
