Professor Wallace Broecker

"Grandfather of Climate Science" In a HARDtalk interview shown on 5th June 2008, Stephen Sackur talks to
geo-chemist Professor Wallace Broecker.

Our planet is warming up thanks to increased man-made greenhouse gas emissions.

That is now the internationally accepted scientific consensus.

But what to do about it ? There the consensus fractures like polar ice in a warming sea.

Professor Wallace Broecker has been called the "grandfather of climate science".

After decades of pioneering research he has no doubt of the dangers of global warming and yet he's more, not less, optimistic that it can be fixed.

Stephen Sackur asks him why.

HARDtalk is broadcast on BBC World News at 03:30 GMT, 08:30 GMT, 14:30 GMT, 20:30 GMT and 22:30 GMT.

Hardtalk can also be seen on BBC News at 04:30 & 23:30.
