In a Hardtalk programme first broadcast on Friday 26th October 2007, Stephen Sackur talks to the managing director of Waitrose, Mark Price.

The supermarket giants who dominate the food retail business in Britain claim they can combine low prices and responsible practice.

But on a host of issues, from environmental sustainability to obesity, supermarkets stand accused of putting profit before the public good.

Stephen Sackur asks Mark Price if the big retailers can really change the way food is produced and consumed.

Hardtalk is broadcast on BBC World at 03:30h GMT (not Asia), 08:30h GMT, 14:30h GMT, 20:30h GMT & 23:30h GMT (not Asia)
