Jeffrey Sachs

UN Secretary General's chief adviser on Millennium Goals

In a HardTalk programme first broadcast on Wednesday 26th September 2007, Sarah Montague talks to the UN Secretary General's chief adviser on the Millennium Goals, Jeffrey Sachs.

As the world's leaders meet at the UN General Assembly in New York, one of the key items on the agenda will be how to put an end to extreme poverty.

It's just one of the Millennium Development Goals which the UN wants to achieve by 2015.

But halfway through the fifteen year plan, the goals are a long way from being met.

Jeffrey Sachs is the Millennium Development Goals adviser to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.

Sarah Montague asks him if the goals are realistic.

HARDtalk can be seen on BBC World at 03:30h GMT (not Asia), 08:30h GMT, 14:30h GMT, 20:30h GMT, 23:30h GMT (not Asia)

It can also be seen on BBC News 24 at 0430 and 2330.
